Founding

Founded on Earth Day (April 22, 2009), Dijuwa is a visual arts business that makes and sells works of art to visualize peace. David Wennemar is the owner and visual artist creating unique artwork to open the mind and inspire. Works are created through screen printing, linoleum block printing, drawing, painting, or digital media.

Dijuwa ("dee-joo-wah") means the sun or day. The symbol for Dijuwa is based on an embryo, turning pages, solar flare, wave, and DJW.

Philosophy

The philosophy moving Dijuwa forward can be simplified in an equation.
The Existence Equation
states that change equals sense divided by reason (c=s/r). Change is the constant that comes before, during, and after life. Sense is the feeling, and reason is the meaning. Balancing common sense and good reason produces sustainable change. The goal is peace.

An interconnected, spiraling, organism of existence is what we are a piece of. The guiding force is change itself and the creativity and sustainability found within and throughout. There is no single creator, master or king of this existence because we are part of the making of the yet to be made. We are not separate from nature or existence, and if we choose to think we are separate, we have lost the will to survive. May we shed paths of delusion and move towards awakened peace. The symbol for this equation was created by turning the equation sidewase and looking through the perspective of change itself.

Mission

Dijuwa’s mission is to visualize peace. Bringing thoughts out of the mind in a visual form opens dialogue, provides understanding, and makes connections.

Vision

Dijuwa’s vision is peace. Peace is a subjective and relative concept which differs from person to person, but generally speaking is a state of freedom, liberty, tranquility, equality, and happiness. Peace is in all of us whenever ready. World peace is so grand a concept, but so simple a solution. If we wait for peace in an afterlife and reject this life then what will we become? The afterlife is this life. World peace is completely attainable at anytime if we want it. Of course there are disagreements from time to time and natural disasters that are unpredictable, but going through these together with dignity, respect, and reverence, we change together. Sometimes it is easy to forget that we all live on the same planet, and that viewed from far away, we are together a tiny blue spec in the black canvas of stars. Visualizing both inner and outer peace makes peace possible.

Creative Process

Dijuwa’s creative process can be simplified to 3C: Collect, Correct, Connect. The process is similar to the scientific method: Collect (question, observe, gather), Correct (hypothesize, deduce), and Connect (test, experiment, report results). The process cycles on as change continues.

Memory Mesh

Memory mesh is a filter of thought that flows inside the mind. This mesh filters situational circumstances towards or away from focus. If memory mesh is too tight it numbs sense and if too loose it numbs reason. This mesh must be flexible to adapt to change and create change.

David Wennemar

David Wennemar is the owner and visual artist for Dijuwa. He was born and raised in Sycamore, Illinois and throughout his childhood he created artwork to explore reality and dimensions unknown. In his senior year of high school, he had brain surgery at the University of Chicago Hospital to remove a benign brain tumor from the left comprehension side of his brain. After surgery, David could remember shapes and objects, but could not remember the words for them and could barely read. Comprehension returned after about 2 months when the swelling went down. This experience gave him a different perspective of visual communication, memory and the brain’s ability to be damaged and healed.

David attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a degree in Visual Communications. A trip to Italy and a trip to Egypt showed him first hand how culturally significant art is and how stories, styles, and symbols create systems of community both past and present to visualize existence. His quest for understanding existence itself lead him to create The Existence Equation. By living and testing this equation each day, David opens up new pathways and visual understandings that encourage him to find the balance for sustainable peace and share this journey through visual artworks created along the way. His mission is to visualize peace for others to get through their personal confusions with focused optimism.

David also works full-time at Exclamation Communications, Inc. as a Senior Graphic Designer. He is a current member of the Kishwaukee Valley Art League. View David's quotes on Twitter.

Neuro Space

Neuro Space is the latest style being created by Dijuwa. Budding nodes from spiraling questions of particles colliding create conscience constellations in the artwork. Visualizing change for peace in a beautiful Neuro Space. Screen prints and paintings done in this style convey a deep pulsing urge to create what is already visual in the mind’s space.

Liltima

"Liltima" (Lily time or little time) is an acrylic painting on masonite that was inspired by my daughter's 3 main daily stages of her new baby living cycle: play, eat, sleep. These faces are set in a wonderous nebula-like scene with bursting energy flowing from the center to speckles of stars suspended in Neuro Space. A sense of peace emanates from within. Buy Now

Synapsi

"Synapsi" (synapsis) is an acrylic painting on masonite inspired by the synapse between two nerve cells where there is a gap where impulses pass by diffusion of a neurotransmitter and through synapsis where fusion of chromosome pairs occur. This gap between is facinating as it is all around us. The snapping of fingers is used as a pun to show the space between and the energy of fusion. Also, the gesture of the hand on the right symbolizes how we are all one and each a piece of peace. A background of glowing fusion pulses the Neuro Space. Buy Now

Citizio

"Citizio" (world citizen) is an acrylic painting on masonite inspired by the concept of being a world citizen. Beyond classes and territories there is this world called Earth that we all live on. Being a citizen of the world places an emphasis on sustainability and a civilization focused on peace. I put myself in this painting along with three symbols (from left to right) vision: peace, mission: visualize peace, and balance: The Existence Equation. The repeated background symbol represents the creative process. As a world citizen, I will use my talents to promote the nurturing of existence, creativity, and science. Buy Now

Trebria

"Trebria" (three tree brain) is an acrylic painting on masonite inspired by the way trees look like brains sprouting up from the ground. Trees give so much to our survival as a family species. From an oak tree, to a sycamore tree, to a maple tree, our presence is due to our coexistence. A creative process symbol is repeated in the background to remind us that ideas evolve. May our breathes be shared in the pulsing Neuro Space. Buy Now

Morala

"Morala" (moral landscape) is an acrylic painting on masonite inspired by Sam Harris's Ted Talk: The Moral Landscape. The painting visualizes the moral landscape as a mobius of memory mesh. I placed myself running along this mesh with the goal of ethical balance and peace within an enlightened Neuro Space. Being conscious of conscience the light shines throughout. Buy Now

Conscio

"Conscio" (conscious) is an acrylic painting on masonite inspired by consciousness. As forces fly a kite, so too flies consciousness as it is pushed and pulled. As one pushes, one pulls, because energy is not created or destroyed, but is simply transformed and changed. The awareness of being present can make the mind fly with creativity. The kite-like forms in this painting represent memory mesh. In the background flows the creative process. Buy Now
